3 Tools To Up Your Plant Game

You can do a great job of being a plant parent with nothing more than some knowledge and a watering can. After all, people have been doing it for as long as we've had agriculture. Maybe you need a little extra help, or just want to take the pressure off - these three little tools can do wonders!

A 3 in 1 moisture meter not only will not only tell you the moisture level of your soil without any guesswork, but you can also switch up the settings to show the pH of the soil or the actual amount of light your plants are getting indoors. This can be super helpful because the human eye isn't actually very good at determining how much light a spot is getting. Remember - just because there's enough light for us, doesn't mean that there's enough light for the plant.

It is helpful to know the actual moisture level of the soil as well. We all stick our fingers in pots to see if it needs watering, a method that's tried and true. But what about those extra-large pots? You can't reach the bottom of them with your finger the same way you can with a 4' pot. Moisture meters can also be a great idea if you are someone who deals with sensory issues, and sticking your finger in the dirt is not an option for you.

Command hooks! Use these all over the house for plants. Hang plants in the window, use them to support any vines climbing up your walls, even use them to add plants to a gallery wall. They're great, especially if you need a renter-friendly solution or if you like to change your decor frequently and need something that won't leave your walls full of holes (same).

Most command hooks just come in white but personally, I like to add a little bit of spice and paint them to fit in with my decor. I haven't gotten around to painting the one that's supporting my pearls n jade pothos (pictured here), but it will eventually be painted bronze.

Lastly, let's talk about lights. Plant lights can be integral to the success of sustaining your houseplants over the course of the winter. They can also be helpful for that dark corner that's begging for a plant to liven it up. Rather than placing a plant there to slowly decline far from a window, picking up a cheap plant light can be a great way to have a plant in that corner that is thriving and happy. There are even grow bulbs that screw into a regular lamp so that your design aesthetic isn't compromised.

Though industrial-looking grow lights are still prevalent, it looks like companies are coming through with options for us that are both functional and cute. Amazon is chock full of options to sift through if you are disinclined to leave your home in this pandemic.
